This is one of my all time favourite live albums.
Brigadier Jerry is a legend and was always at his best in a live environment or when he was chatting and toasting on a sound system. This album delivers exactly that – it features Brigadier Jerry in complete control of a dance, and was recorded on Jack Ruby Sound System in Ocho Rios.
If there was a school for upcoming DJs, then this album would be one of the core revision materials on the curriculum.
This album is very hard to find now and was released in 1983 on French label ‘Dancehall Stylee Records’ [DHS 001]. The copy that I have plays perfectly, despite the album sleeve being a bit tattered and used – we are putting this down to a sign of love, and many plays on the turntables.
There is no tracklisting as such, basically each side of the record is a seemless DJ set with Brigadier Jerry DJing over some of the biggest hits of the time. No pull-ups every 10 seconds, just smooth DJ’ing from a master of the art.
Love the album art too – simple, colourful, and one we’d love to have as a poster.
