We haven’t featured a 12″ before; also the actual sleeve doesn’t feature any artwork at all – it is totally black, but it acts a perfect frame for the fantastic record label and makes it look like a complete piece. The bold rasta graphic and vivid red, gold, and green colours look great in the middle of the black sleeve surrounding it. All Blacker Dread 12″ releases featured similar designs for the labels.

This is the 1992 re-pressing of the 1984 original on Blacker Dread Records. The remix on Side B is awesome too.

Jah Screechy started DJing on Black Lion Sound System in North West London, before moving over to Sir Coxsone Sound. Walk & Skank was cut over a version of The Answer rhythm and was Jah Screechy’s biggest hit by far.

‘Walk and Skank’ was given a new lease of life in 1992 when the record was heavily sampled by SL2 for a track called ‘On A Ragga Tip’ – the track got to number 2 in the UK charts in spring 1992.
