The Gaylads – Soul Beat [1967]

The Gay Lads - Soul Beat

This is the Studio 1 release of The Gay Lads 1960’s ‘Soul Beat’. I love the grainy photo and the text.

This album was released in 1967 and was produced by the legendary Coxsone Dodd.

It’s a rather sombre album cover that doesn’t really match the uplifting and joyous tracks on the record. The photo on the cover looks like something from the 1800s as opposed to the 1960s – plus they have all managed to look in completely different directions whilst having their photo taken. Nice work boys.

This is an album packed full of great harmonies and rolling basslines, and stands as a fine testament to high standard of 1960s Jamaican vocal groups.
